Core concepts

The terms used across Sparkle.

Engines

Sparkle measures six answer engines: Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, Google AI Overview and Google AI Mode.

Brands and organizations

An organization holds users and brands. Each brand workspace has a profile, products and URLs, competitors and aliases, and a brand voice.

Prompts, pools and personas

A prompt is a question asked of every engine. A pool groups prompts from Search Console, SEMrush, YAML and LLM expansion. Personas describe the customers who ask them.

Sweeps

A sweep runs the approved pool across the engines and records brand order, position and citations.

Influence factors

The evidence audit scores content against six factors: reciprocity, commitment, social proof, authority, liking and scarcity.

Concept pages

  • Organization: An organization is a customer account in Sparkle. It holds the users, brands, integrations and entitlements for one customer.
  • Brand: A brand is the unit Sparkle measures. Each brand has its own profile, products, competitors, brand voice, team and engines, and its own prompt pools and sweeps.
  • Product: A product is an item the brand sells, identified by its name and URL. Products give prompts and audited pages something specific to refer to.
  • Prompt pool: A prompt pool is the approved set of questions that a sweep asks each engine. Pools move through Draft, In review and Approved.
  • Persona: A persona is a customer type whose questions Sparkle measures. Results are reported for each persona.
  • Competitor: A competitor is another brand measured against yours. Aliases are the names engines may use for a competitor's products, so Sparkle can recognize a mention.
  • Engine: An engine is an answer engine that Sparkle measures in each sweep. Six engines are measured.
  • Sweep: A sweep runs an approved prompt pool across the engines and records what each engine says.
  • Influence factor: The six influence factors are the measures the evidence audit scores content against: reciprocity, commitment, social proof, authority, liking and scarcity.
  • Citation: A citation is a source that an engine links or names when it answers a prompt.
  • Visibility, share of voice and WIN: These three measures summarize how often a brand is named across engines and prompts.
  • Recommendation: A recommendation is an action that improves how a brand is described and cited. It is either template-level, which applies across the site, or per URL, which applies to one page.
  • Report: A report is the online summary of a brand's results. Each reader sees the view for their role.
